The Pasty Connection
The Pasty Connection was set up 8 years ago as a Facebook group to enable people to liftshare easily primarily from SW Cornwall up to Bristol. Since it's humble beginnings the Facebook group exploded to where it now has over 34,000 members and lots of liftshares per day. The page became so popular that posts where getting lost and the need to produce an app with advanced location aware filtering and sorting of the posts became apparent.
Appstart took on the job of creating The Pasty Connection app. After 5 months of development the app was delivered.
We are in the process of adding the following to the app.
Automatic lift matching.Using the google routeing api we can match lifts in a more cleaver way. Here is an example:
I post a lift offered from Penzance to London.
Someone else posted a lift wanted from Truro to London.
Using the data from the google routing api our systems can figure out that the lift offered from Penzance to London will be passing by Truro and is therefore a good fit for the lift wanted from Truro to London. The system can then send an alert to both parties.
Pastyconnection LiveInstead of posting a lift to the app, when a driver gets into their car, they click the ‘Live’ button in the app, then they enter their destination (This is very quick as app already makes choosing locations very easy and remembers previous choices). The driver then presses go and the app tracks the drivers location for the duration of the drive. Using the google routing API data, the app notifies users who want a lift from any point FROM along the route to anywhere TO along the route that there is a lift on the way. The person wanting the lift requests the lift, the driver is then notified.
We have an ongoing relationship with The Pasty Connection Ltd and are commited to producing the best liftshare app in the UK and then onwards to Europe!
